Huge News! Authentic Gremlins In British IT Commercial!

This is HUGE!

Before I say anything further, check it out!

The original is here:
http://www.guardian.co.uk/media/video/2008/apr/30/dragons.den.gremlins.bt

Did you look? WOW!

This is a relatively new commercial, most likely from this year, so we can assume it was made in 2007.

Here is what is interesting:

  • The gremlins seem to be a mix of traditional puppet/wire effects and some CGI for the full body effects.
  • The music is directly from the movie, the same goes for the gremlin “voices”
  • The gremlins are designed after the Chris Walas Gremlins from the first film, with the green and brown look, as opposed to the tan and brown gremlins from the second film.
  • Stripe can be clearly seen while they are leaving the elevator.
  • The elevator is quite adequately lit, apparently someone didn’t check their facts before writing this…we can forgive them on this one.
  • The gremlins seem a bit shorter than usual, which must have been a creative decision.

Why did they choose the REAL gremlins as opposedto some nameless “gremlins” or monsters that other commercials have used? Who did the work on this? If anyone finds anything out about this, we would LOVE to know As Soon As Possible.

For those of you “across the pond”, does this commercial air regularly? Do people talk about it?

Special Thanks to Adam H. and the others that wrote in for bringing this to our attention!

These puppet were souly for British Telecom and had full blessing of WB, they even supplied the casts and music right. This has been showing now on all the channels in England for about a month and is on all the time. There has been a lot of Talk about Gremlins in london in the Newspapers. My partner worked at Pinewood studios and still has friends that work in the offices their and they are saying that WB having been filming secretly for nearly 4 months now but no-one knows what it is there up to as its a closed set. I’ve been keeping my eyes open while down China town just incase i see a fur ball waddle past me! lol.
If i hear anymore I will so leak it. I would be fab to have another Gremlin puppet movie. Smells like a hipe build up to me. Getting us ready for a 3rd.

simply awesome!!! just goes to show that if they can make new puppets from scratch and still look just as awesome, they can totally do a new movie in this style. this made my day.

I saw this on TV today and I ended up doing a double take because I thought for a moment I was seeing things. I loved that they kept the Gremlins like the 80’s ones and that they had Stripe in there 🙂

This is the 90-second version that will appear online on the BT website (http://www.bt.com/business/tvadvert). It will be going on TV as a 50-second version from Monday 5th May – the advert break in Grand Designs Live at around 9:14pm on Channel 4 for example. Hope you enjoy it.

    Peter:
Good to know. some commercials here in the US run that long, but it is not very common. Often they will be approximately 30-45 seconds long. This kind of commercial would likely be edited down if we ever got something like that over here.

    Hey there

The advert has not yet screened over here
It is too long for a normal TV advert so i’m guessing it will be used for Cinema advertising.

    Looks great though

If you look up ‘making of the BT Business Gremlins’ on YouTube you will get a ‘making of’ video for the ad. The video should be the first on the list. Hope this helps.
