Gremlins Online!

Your home for all things Gremlins

Video Vault Spring Cleaning

I spent a bit of time today going through the videos in the Video Vault to make sure they are all working, but sadly a few of them are now gone, with no signs of returning. For the remaining videos that were not functioning, I found replacements, so enjoy some Videos if you get bored…or on lunch or….just want to watch some Family Guy Gremlin-y fun!

If you have any videos (not clips from the films) on youtube, google video, veoh, or wherever, just drop me a line at Jypsy27@gmail.com and I will take a peek and see if we can include them in the Gremlins Online Video Vault!

{Rumor Mill} NECA Making More Gremlins Toys In 2008?

One of our regular readers, “Camacho” got in touch with some of the guys at NECA toys to find out what is the hold up with new Gremlins toys. Most of the info he is bringing us comes from a Q&A that NECA had this summer.

“NECA has no new gremlin stuff for 2007….but 2008 is a different story…no details were given of what might come out….when asked about bringing the bat and spider gremlin to cult classic series, they said they would like to see them but nothing is for sure.
They said we would have to wait till 2008 for gremlin stuff…the bat and spider is pure speculation..but they commented on it by saying that “they would love to see them in the cult classics” They also added that they love both movies”

Thanks Camacho for your tip! Too bad we won’t see anything Gremlin-y this year, so it looks like we will not be getting the Board Game anytime soon either, so let’s hope 2008 will be a better year!

What we want, Fred, is what everyone wants….

Aside from a feature fim contiunation of the Gremlins series, some decent merchandise to break our oft-neglected piggy banks open is right on the top of many a Gremlins fan’s list.

We have been getting some reports of new spifftastic T-Shirts, but sadly the vast majority of them have been quite uninspired, but for those who have been asking about what different designs have released, here are a few of the newest that have popped up on online retailers and the wonder of junk that is known as eBay…. (click on the pics for bigger versions)

First, we have some of what I feel are the worst uses of the Gremlins License so far….

“High Maintenance”      “It’s Good To Be Bad”

Ok, The “Rebel” shirt is probably the most atrocious of the designs, but it does gain points in my sticker book for being among the very few Mogwai Stripe shirt seen in many years. The “Word To Your Mogwai” shirt makes me cringe just thinking about it, and “High Maintenance” just is reminiscant of those black sequined shirts that were quite a rage for girls to wear that touted rebellious statements such as “Princess”, “Bitch”, “Spoiled”, “Sassy” or other pseudo-rebel propaganda. I personally can’t stand them, as to me they are a cry for attention from someone who obviously gets too much as it is.  Then again, they could have some ironic inside joke attached to the wearer of the shirts that of which, I am blissfully unaware. Either way, not my style. Moving on, “It’s Good to be bad” is much less annoying than the “Rebel” shirt, but still uses the same stock image of Stripe to convey the “rebelliousness” in us all. As much as I dislike the attitude these shirts have, I do enjoy seeing them in stores, and even more, seeing them on people out and about. It reminds me that Gremlins isn’t a forgotten franchise, and that it may have a decent life in the future…we hope…

Most of these shirts are only sold in girls’ sizes, and many are only juniors as well, so sadly, the more masculine among us will have to search elsewhere to get our ‘tude on.

Next up after the break, some depressingly bland shirts and a few Teriffic Timeless T-Shirt Treasures to watch out for!
(and maybe more aliterations!)

Mogwhy Cat!

Ok, I stumbled upon this one today, and normally I am quite annoyed by incessant cute cat pictures on the internet, this one spoke to the Gremlins nut inside of me.

Yes. This wins.

(see, the misspellings are ironic cuteness!)

Is Stripe a Transformer?!

I have gotten a few emails recently regarding the upcoming Transformers movie, and the voice talent being used to bring life to the robots of yesteryear and today.

One of the original voice actors from the Transformers Cartoon series, Peter Cullen, is reprising his role as the leader of the valiant Autobots, Optimus Prime. This was revealed last year sometime to the general public, and it was quickly assumed that Frank Welker would be returning as well for the voice of Megatron. (Nerd Trivia Note: The original voice of Megatron was performed by Earl Hammond, but most people remember Frank Welker’s later work as Megatron’s voice, though both did a spectacular job.) Unfortunately, the studio decided that Frank was “too old” for the role, and instead cast venerable elf-lord and machine agent, Hugo Weaving as the Decipticons’ first-in-command.

How does this relate to our green reptilian creatures of the nocturnal persuasion? Well, Frank Welker was the memorable voice that brought Stripe to life in Gremlins, as well as various gremlins in the film and also Mohawk in Gremlins 2. (and most likely random background gremlins in the sequel.)

So is Stripe a Transformer this time around? Yes and no. Frank Welker was Megatron in the cartoon series, but will not be in the feature film….However, Frank will be returning to the role of Megatron in the Transformers video game coming out this summer that is based on the 2007 film.

I have to admit that having the original voices of Megatron and Optimus Prime together again in the video game does lend an appeal to a movie tie-in game that I would normally avoid, so we shall see if the movie warrants the game’s rental.

Now let’s see Frank return for GREMLINS 3! Hell, let’s just see them make a Gremlins 3!

As the summer is slow with news, don’t expect very frequent updates, but they will pop up here and there.

Stay tuned to Gremlins Online and remember to drop us an email if you have any tidbits of Gremliny goodness.
