Gremlins Online!

Your home for all things Gremlins

Silence for a month?!

Heyas all!

I know I haven’t updated Gremlins Online! In some time, and I can fill you all with fun excuses such as my homework ate my dog, but the truth is sadly much more uninspiring than canine-devouring schoolwork. (Though having homework would be quite a feat, seeing as I am a quite a few years out of school)

No, dear readers, the truth is that life just got hectic at a time when Gremlins news has been coming at a trickle, nay, a drop at a time.

So here are your updates:

Gremlins 3
-No new news, except for a Gremlins Online reader that apparently spoke with Joe Dante recently who said that it is unlikely studios would touch it, as gremlins wouldn’t really be taken seriously nowadays. (this is taken as rumor until verification, but seems likely as it is the same thing he has been saying for some years now.)

Gremlins Board Game by NECA & Other Gremlins Merchandise
-Surprise, surprise, nothing new of interest here. I did recently find an online retailer that has been listing the board game since as far back as June 14, 2006. So this nonexistant game is just kind of sitting in limbo, much to many fans discontent.

The Lost Gremlins PS2 Game
-I have a little more info, a short video and some music, but I cannot release it on the site until given permission from the content owners. Once this happens, the Lost Gremlins Games section will see a full revamp, and it will be a good thing.

Fan Art Friday is still kinda-sorta happening, but on a less frequent basis. I still plan on updating it on fridays that I get more fan submissions.

Videos have been lacking lately, it seems more people enjoy putting themselves and friends acting like complete morons on video sharing sites rather than creating interesting content.

Recently, I have had some ideas of merging Gremlins Online into a larger site that I have been in the planning stages of where it is a pop-culture/geek-culture blog site, but the internet really has enough of those it seems.

It all boils down to Gremlins news comes in waves, and unless we get a confirmed Gremlins 3 in the next year or so, we probably won’t have a ton to report about on a daily basis.

That said, I will assure you this…we at Gremlins Online will keep trying and will find those tidbits of info that you so ravenously crave!

Fan Art Friday #12 Old School NES Mohawk

One of our first submissions for Fan Art Friday came from Nuthacker on October 6, 2006, now, six months later, he returns with a picture that just plain blows me away

As you can see, it is Mohawk in all his orangey pixelated glory from Gremlins 2: The New Batch for Nintendo Entertainment System. What is so spiffy about this one that makes me tingle with excitement? Click on the pic to go to the Fan Art Fridays section to get a better look!

{Ebay Treasures} Gremlin Puppet Prop & Lenny Mask

Welcome to “Ebay Treasures” a new series of posts that will share some of the awesome and rare Gremlins things that show up on various auction sites and marketplaces online. This will be updated whenever something pops up, so it could be twice in a day, or once in a month, all at the whims of the market!

First up is an awesome Don Post made Lenny Mask from Gremlins 2. These were seen mostly in ads in magazines like Fangoria, Cinescape or Starlog and ranged from 30$ for the basic latex versions to 75$ for the really high-quality ones with hair or more detail in the features.

The mask is up on auction until Saturday, April 7 if you are interested.

As usual, Gremlins Online has no connection to this auction and is just as information, letting everyone know about a cool gremlins item on ebay.

Our second Ebay Treasure was found by one of our regular readers Aelia P.

Unfortunately, we missed the boat on this one, as the auction ended before we could catch it and sell some body parts to afford it, but maybe it is for the best. My wife would probably kill me if I was missing a kidney to pay for a Gremlins prop, though I doubt she would not be surprised at all.

Check the full size of this bad boy out, you won’t regret it!

This auction claimed to be an original prop from Chris Walas’ collection, and while I tend to be skeptical when it comes to “original props”, the quality sure says it is legit. The puppet is fantastic quality for being over 20 years old, as the materials used aren’t designed to survive this long. Even simple handling deteriorates the latex and paints used rapidly due to the natural oils in our hands.

If you want to take a peek at what the $4,000 auction looked like, here is the link: http://cgi.liveauctions.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&sspagename=ADME%3AB%3AWNA%3AUS%3A122&viewitem=&item=230104755964

Thanks again, Aleia for this awesome tip!

If you have an Ebay Treasure that you are putting up, or even that you stumbled upon while browsing various auction/trade sites, send them on in to Jypsy27@gmail.com and I will get it up here ASAP!

Meet Zach Galligan at Collectormania 11 in May!

Heyas all,

Silvermoonlight informed me that Zach Galligan, Mr. Billy Peltzer himself, will be a guest at Collectormania 11 this May.
He will be joined by some fantastic stars such as Michael Beihn, James Marsters, Rene Auberjonois, and a personal favorite of mine, Michael Winslow.

The good news is this gives you plenty of time to make plans to get there….

The bad news is that Collectormania 11 takes places in Buckinghamshire, England, so many of us US fans will miss this opportunity.

The event is from Friday 4 May-Monday 7 May at the Middleton Hall.

I will update everyone once more information becomes available, in regards to specific times and details of appearances.

Those of you who can make it, be sure to take some pictures and say hi on behalf of Gremlins Online to Zach!

Updates on Gremlins toys and Family Guy mogwai!

One of our super Gremlin fans, Andrew, was awesome and informed me about Sunday’s episode of the cartoon Family Guy which had this beyond amazing clip……

So it looks like some of the writers/staff of Family guy are hardcore Gremlins fans.
Evidence?
1. They pronounced “Mogwai” correctly.
2. Peter feeds his Mogwai a chicken drumstick, the same thing that the Mogwai in the first Gremlins film ate.
3. The…..Gremlin…..is exterminated in the same manner as was one of the gremlins in what may be one of the most memorable moments out of the two films.
4. The rules are understood and not butchered. (i.e saying they can’t get wet after midnight)
5. Peter’s Mogwai is proportionately drawn and recognizable even while being a parody.

There were a couple updates to the site over the last week, while I have been dealing with some personal obligations.

-The Ride section updated with info and more pictures.
-Video Vault is getting cleaned up as we speak
-Video Games updated slightly

So, 2007 has the first serious rumblings of Gremlins 3 being actually made, it has an accurate parody of a Mogwai/Gremlins in a major television show, and from what a little bird told me, things are a little too quiet on the Gremlins merchandising front.

What does this all mean?
Nothing at all.
Unless you want to speculate, which is all kinds of good fun.
Then you can speculate that it is possible that the reason that there hasn’t been any Gremlins merchandise is there is interest in either
1. A new licensee taking over
2. The license for gremlins is in limbo.
or 3. They are gearing up for something.
It is not uncommon for a license to disappear for a short time before a major marketing push, while production begins on a new line of toys/shirts/dolls/books/posters. Companies like to refocus their energies all the time, to ensure that their money invested will be returned. This leads to a lull in shipping or production, as the new product is being prepared.

Then again, maybe the companies just decided to not make anything this year, and conveniently ignore requests at various official events to explain the absence of gremlins in their 2007 line-ups. Yes. That makes sense, ignore multiple people at multiple times on the same subject.

Sounds suspicious to me.

Remember this: Gizmo Furby was a big deal, and it was used to find out the market reaction to Gremlins being reintroduced to a newer market.

Folks this is a great news day, and there will be more to spawn here in the coming weeks around here, once certain tapes of the red variety get sliced through.

Remember you heard it here at Gremlins Online…
Something Will Be Hatching Soon.
