Avat-I mean The Last Airbender Movie Review

I should proably note two things right off the bat:
1. Uhhvitar The Last Uhhbender is actually the first chapter of the series “Book 1: Water”
2. I haven’t seen more than 2 or 3 episodes of the cartoon.

That said, last night I went along with a bunch of peoples to see M. Night Shaymin’s new film which I was quite excited to see since I know a good number of people who are huge Avatar (TV Cartoon, not the oversized Smurf allegory movie) fans. Not to mention that the trailers made it look like an entertaining popcorn wire-fu flick with some neat effects. We opted for the 3D version, since a few people that joined us wanted to experience a 3D movie for the first time.
We were treated to not just a 3D film but a Sony Pictures 4K 3D Movie! I asked the nice ticket lady what a 4K 3D movie was and if it had any relation to Capcom’s naming conventions (I.E “Super Street Fighter 13 Ex Plus Alpha Remix Unleashed Off The top rope 2: The Legend Begins: The Video Game” ) She said she had no idea. (Ok So I made the Capcom part up, but she honestly had no clue what the “Sony 4k” part meant)
Moving along, we got our glasses and headed to the theatre. I caught a glimpse of a Scott Pilgrim Vs The World poster and suddenly was excited that I might get to see the International Trailer in 3D! I dashed ahead into the theatre, where we split in to two groups. “Stupidly Close” and “Insanely Distant” in relation to the screen. I of course chose the Stupidly Close option since I have terrible judgement in life.

Do you hear what I hear, brother?!

Heyas all!
Time for the first not 100% gremliny post that some of you have been excited about, while the rest of you are busy finding ways to ban me from the internet for not posting gremlins stuffs 24/7.

Gremlins has always been my number one passion throughout my life, and when I was young, back before the interwebs were what they are today, I wanted one book more than any.novel

The Gremlins Novelization by George Gipe.
To me, this was the bible of all Gremlins knowledge. With it, the secrets of the creatures that occupied a huge portion of my   mind at all times would be unlocked.  I feverishly searched the book out, as feverishly a 5 or 6 year old could. This is where  the back story comes in.

My parents would make semi-regular trips up to North Fon Du Lac, Wisconsin to see my Uncle Richie his family. This was always exciting for me, since my cousins, Richie and Tony, were older than me by about 6-7 years. This meant one thing, and one thing only.

They had the cool toys & I could play with them.

Mogwhy Cat!

Ok, I stumbled upon this one today, and normally I am quite annoyed by incessant cute cat pictures on the internet, this one spoke to the Gremlins nut inside of me.

Yes. This wins.

(see, the misspellings are ironic cuteness!)

Is Stripe a Transformer?!

I have gotten a few emails recently regarding the upcoming Transformers movie, and the voice talent being used to bring life to the robots of yesteryear and today.

One of the original voice actors from the Transformers Cartoon series, Peter Cullen, is reprising his role as the leader of the valiant Autobots, Optimus Prime. This was revealed last year sometime to the general public, and it was quickly assumed that Frank Welker would be returning as well for the voice of Megatron. (Nerd Trivia Note: The original voice of Megatron was performed by Earl Hammond, but most people remember Frank Welker’s later work as Megatron’s voice, though both did a spectacular job.) Unfortunately, the studio decided that Frank was “too old” for the role, and instead cast venerable elf-lord and machine agent, Hugo Weaving as the Decipticons’ first-in-command.

How does this relate to our green reptilian creatures of the nocturnal persuasion? Well, Frank Welker was the memorable voice that brought Stripe to life in Gremlins, as well as various gremlins in the film and also Mohawk in Gremlins 2. (and most likely random background gremlins in the sequel.)

So is Stripe a Transformer this time around? Yes and no. Frank Welker was Megatron in the cartoon series, but will not be in the feature film….However, Frank will be returning to the role of Megatron in the Transformers video game coming out this summer that is based on the 2007 film.

I have to admit that having the original voices of Megatron and Optimus Prime together again in the video game does lend an appeal to a movie tie-in game that I would normally avoid, so we shall see if the movie warrants the game’s rental.

Now let’s see Frank return for GREMLINS 3! Hell, let’s just see them make a Gremlins 3!

As the summer is slow with news, don’t expect very frequent updates, but they will pop up here and there.

Stay tuned to Gremlins Online and remember to drop us an email if you have any tidbits of Gremliny goodness.
