Win a copy of Jerry Goldsmith’s Gremlins (1984) score from Ain’t It Cool News!!!

One of the most asked questions I have gotten in my emails over the years is: “Where can I get the Score to the first film on CD?” My response always is “Sorry, it doesn’t look like you will be able to.”

Until now.

Retrograde Records is releasing the amazing score by Jerry Goldsmith on CD very shortly, and Ain’t It Cool News is giving a few copies away.

Of course I entered, and you all should too!!

{Gremlins Online Exclusive!} Intro Footage from the unreleased Gremlins PS2/Gamecube game

Folks, this is the big news I have been wanting to share with you for a very long time now.

Let’s just get to it.

This was given to Gremlins Online over a year ago, with the understanding that it not be made public for at least a year, and that it would not be available for download.

The game was looking pretty unique, and the footage would have been universal for the PS2 and Gamecube versions.

A fascinating tidbit learned from a source that wishes not to be named; after finishing a milestone in the project, there was simply no communication or response from the publishing company and no further instructions on the Gremlins project. It simply disappeared. Apparently those involved with LSP were used to this kind of behavior, often going weeks or even more without any communication from the project leads. Since then, all involved have moved onto new (and hopefully better) projects, but I am proud to share this bit of footage with you.

I am personally intrigued that Warner Bros allowed LSP to make such radical departure from established canon in the form of the Mogwai Council, as well as having Gizmo reproduce a new version of a long-dead enemy. Again, I don’t really know how much WB had approved, and these changes might have something to do with the game’s termination.

Again, I apologize that I cannot offer the video for download, but I hope you are as excited as I am to finally get to enjoy a little bit of the game that never was.

More info to come soon!

New Gremlins toys revealed at SDCC 11

Hey folks

Regular reader Lucifersam sent this in to us, and it is quite a neat video of some of the upcoming toys by NECA found at San Diego Comic Con 2011.

Thanks to youtube user pitu23 for posting this awesome find.

The fascinating thing about these toys isn’t that they are releasing more Gremlins stuffs, but the inclusion of the “Flasher Gremlin” from the first movie amongst the Gremlins 2 models. (The gremlin in the second film that pays homage to the original flasher didn’t have a cigarette and had a different pattern as well.)

Another really cool thing that can be noticed is the pods from the first Gremlins film in the background on the shelves. I have reached out to my contacts within NECA to see if they will be available for sale at any point….

Nothing to see here, move along.

Hey Folks!

All has been way too quiet on the Gremlins front for a long while now, and I think we can all agree we would just like to have some kind of news regarding the development (or not) of Gremlins 3 from someone in the know.  Everyone I have spoken to that would know anything about the film has said the same thing: “There is progress, but it is all talk right now”

That doesn’t mean there won’t ever be a Gremlins 3, and it doesn’t mean it will definitely happen either. It just is a sample of what hollywood is known for. Talking. Everyone “absolutely wants to” do another movie (with the exception of Joe Dante, but even he is sure there will be a G3 eventually) but no one “absolutely wants to” put the money forward to really make this happen.

Bringing a property back that has seen no activity on TV or film in over 20 years is a hard sale unless it is a reboot, but then the questions are asked: Does Gremlins NEED a reboot? and Would it work in 2011?

The fact of Ghostbusters 3 still hasn’t happened really hurts the chances of Gremlins 3 happening anytime reasonably soon. If you are wondering how the two are related, as they are both from completely separate companies, Ghostbusters and Ghostbusters 2 were massive commercial successes spawning merchandise beyond what Gremlins could and has done. There have been 2 (3 if you include Slimer! And the Real Ghostbusters) cartoon series, and there is a lot of activity on the fan front. (see http://protoncharging.com if you want the best Ghostbusters site out there!) Gremlins has you, the fantastic and loyal gremlins fans, but sadly it pales in comparison to the size of the Ghostbusters fan segment. More fans = more money.

Now if there were a way we could show the studios that Gremlins is a financial blockbuster and they are insane not to make the movie RIGHT NOW, we would be in great shape. So keep the fan art, fan videos and discussion flowing. We know they are watching this site, and if we keep up the momentum and show them that there is a lot of money to be made from bringing back our favorite property, it just might help convince the ones that are on the fence to finally give the green light to our green friends!
