New Gremlins Reference found in…Gremlins!

While viewing Gremlins with a good friend who had not seen the film in its entirety before….(And still hasn’t, so if you are reading this, we need to set a date for the second half! bwahahah) I noticed that during the scene in which Billy takes Pete to his room to meet Gizmo, there is a rolled-up Twilight Zone: The Movie poster in the corner!

For those that are unaware of Twilight Zone: The Movie, it release in 1983, and contained a remade segment of “Nightmare at 20,000 Feet”. This was the story of a man afraid to fly who was played by John Lithgow in the film, and William Shatner in the original 1963 Twilight Zone episode.

The man quickly becomes terrified of the Gremlin he sees on the wing of the plane, which he believes will cause the plane to crash.

The short tale is one of the most famous Twilight Zone episodes and movie segments, so the poster’s appearance is yet another subtle “Gremlins” reference within the movie, chalked right up there with malfunctioning machinery, and an AMC gremlin appearing in the film’s introduction.

Another neat little connection, is the legendary Dick Miller (Mr. Murray Futterman in Gremlins) makes an appearance in another segment in Twilight Zone: The Movie

For those interested in checking out the original 1963 episode, here is the episode on youtube

So there you go!

Soon there will be a report of how it was to introduce Gremlins to my friend….and how long she can tolerate watching for every little detail that fascinates me with the movie. That would make her pretty awesome to be able to enjoy the movie while I point out neat trivia all over the place.

Finally, as always be sure to vote on MovieMob for a good friend of Gremlins Online: Andre Meadows! He has brought Gizmo on to the show with him a few times and is never afraid to show how awesome of a Gremlins fan he is. Keep up the great work Andre, and we always want to see more Gangsta Gizmo!

Gremlins now showing on G4!

Heyas all!
For those interested, if you get the Cable station G4, Gremlins is now playing as part of their “Movies That Don’t Suck” series.

EXCLUSIVE! Interview With Sacha Feiner, creator of the Gremlins Mash-up Fan Film!

Gremlins online presents the long-awaited exclusive interview with the incredibly talented Sacha Feiner.
Here are two of his videos on Youtube for you to check out, including the incredible Gremlins Fan Film Mash-Up.
Without further delay, let’s get the interview started!
Q: First off, thanks for letting me interview you for Gremlins Online, Sacha. By now, the gremlins community knows your name and you are something of a Gremlins Celebrity among fans. What can you tell us about yourself?

A: First of all, thanks for your invitation. I hope my written english will be ok! I’ll briefly talk of my career:  I made graphic communication studies, and was graduated in 2005. I didn’t like it that much but I succeeded in diverting it to cinema and animation;

interview1

my graduate project was an interactive political sci-fi animated movie. After that, I made several short movies and cartoons, also working as a graphist. My first big professional work (but still personal), the one I am the most proud of today, was the “World In Progress” series, that was played before each screening at the Brussels International Fantastic Film Festival in 2007 (you can watch that series on Youtube – type “sacha feiner”). After co-directing a recut trailers series last year, a very interesting editing exercise, I am now making another more personal series for 2009, but it is still in pre-production so I shouldn’t talk too much! Same thing for my first long feature, which french producers are interested in…

(The rest of the interview follows after the break!)

Gremlins ate my comments!

Oh no! Did Gremlins eat your comments?

Probably not. They were most likely deleted.

Lately there have been a large amount of comments that are, for the most part, spam.
Either they are so poorly written that they are unintelligible, or they are obvious trolling efforts.
Do you want your comments approved and read by the Gremlins Online community? Then follow these simple guidelines.

  • Take your time. If you have something you want others to read, ensure it is readable. The comments don’t need to be 100% grammatically accurate, but they should be written in a manner where anyone can read it, without it seeming you slammed your face into the keyboard a dozen times.
  • Don’t post unverifiable rumors. One of the reasons many posts are deleted, is that they are along the lines of “GREMLINZ 3 IS COMN OUT MY FREINDTOLD ME!” or linking to one of the many fan trailers on youtube. Once there is an official word on anything Gremlins related, I assure you, it will be posted here immediately, with sources!
  • Use Common Sense. If your post has nothing to do with the topic, or is just to rant about something non-gremlins related, don’t bother posting.

Basically it all comes down to if people can’t put the effort into following these simple guidelines, then we won’t put the effort into reading their posts.

That said, there have been a lot of fantastic posts that the entire community benefits from, and if this trend continues, we will definitely see a message board in the near future!

Changes, Lack Of Updates, Lack Of things to be said?

Heyas all!

The last few months have been incredibly quiet on the Gremlins front, but surprisingly busy in my personal life, including my son turning 1, and moving to a new home.

Sadly, the momentum from the BT Gremlins ad seems to have died down and so have the rumors of Gremlins 3 yet again. This doesn’t mean that there isn’t one in the works, but that there isn’t anything being said.

There is some great news though, Zach Galligan’s newest film, Let Them Chirp Awhile, is finally being brought to Netflix! Be sure to queue it up and take a peek at a great film!

The promises of new gremlins products in the marketplace by the end of the year seem to be unlikely, since there hasn’t been anything beyond a few variations on t-shirt designs and whatnot.

Finally, I have done some long and hard thinking about the direction of Gremlins Online.
Don’t worry the site isn’t going anywhere. A couple months without news is par for the course for Gremlins, and as the 25th anniversary of the original film approaches, we probably will see a new version of Gremlins released, but after that? Who knows?
That being said, I am considering expanding Gremlins Online to include more things of interest to those who might enjoy Gremlins…Ok who am I kidding? I am really considering adding more content of things I personally enjoy. Things I find neato and weird. The core of the site will still be Gremlins, but my goal is to keep up regular content, which is becoming difficult for our favorite (soon to be) 25 & 18 year old movies exclusively.

So expect to see more. More what? I don’t quite know yet, but comment, tell me what you want. Maybe we will even get those awesome forums I keep getting emails about!

I will say this, the site will not become a cookie-cutter random nostalgia site or anything. In all reality one of my favorite blogs is X-entertainment which I consider the most awesome blog ever, because of Matt’s approach to storytelling. So while I am not going to encroach on his market, I do hope to include some articles that are focused on things like: “WOAH I FOUND THIS THING!” and my excitement at shiny objects. Plus, I love weird things. I love reviewing things that probably don’t need to be reviewed. I also have no qualifications to post anything about anything, but hey, this is the internet!

I also tend to get over-excited about strange things, and want to share that with you, the unwitting public!

Get Ready. Things are about to get….weird.
