Gremlins Online!

Your home for all things Gremlins

Start Spreadin’ The News! The 30th anniversary fan book is now available! Exclusive forward!

Today is one of the most exciting days in Gremlins history! gremlins-21
The film turns 30 today as Gremlins took over theaters on June 8th 1984 right alongside another iconic 80’s film; Ghostbusters.

In honor of our favorite film turning 30, Gremlins superfan, archivist and all-around community supporter, (and good friend of Gremlins Online) Aelia Petro has released her long-awaited 30th Anniversary Fan Book: Gremlin in your house. It is free and online right now for you to enjoy!

She has been working very hard on this project and we have an exclusive interview coming up in the very new future with her that I can’t wait to share with everyone. Originally I planned on posting the interview along with the full reveal of the book, but after reading the finished product, I felt that the book should get everyone’s complete focus as every page shows the love Aelia and many of us have for the films.

As a special 30th anniversary before-midnight treat, we have a Gremlins Online-exclusive forward written by the author of Gremlin In Your House!

The forward and link to the book can be found after the break.

{30th Anniversary} Gremlins is now available for digital download!

Hey folks!

Let the mayhem begin!!!

As part of Warner Bros’  celebration in honor of 1984’s Gremlins 30th anniversary as well as Gremlins 2: The New Batch is now gremlisn coveravailable for Digital Download on iTunes! The quality is about the same as the current blu-ray release, and is just exciting to be able to have on my mobile device in high quality. Note: all the pictures in this post are courtesy of Warner Brothers and are grabbed from the iTunes digital download of Gremlins. The price is reasonable, and Warner Bros is offering a significant discount when buying the digital 2-pack. Might be worth it if nothing else than to watch Gremlins on an airplane….the irony!

This is just the first release in what is shaping up to be a fantastic 2014 for Gremlins fans.
Earlier this year, series star Zach Galligan tweeted that he did an 80-minute interview for the 30th anniversary “Definitive” Blu-Ray, which should be hitting later this year, and from what I have heard will contain new never-before-seen footage. Might we see the infamous McDonald’s scene? Probably not, but we just might get something surprising. As the tagline goes: What you see, isn’t always what you get.  00309425web

Speaking personally, I am pleasantly surprised that WB is putting their weight behind Gremlins this year.
The 25th anniversary came and went with a release, but not much fanfare.
In the merchandise realm, fans know that the Gremlins license is strong, with Neca’s recent Spider Gremlin selling incredibly well, and their 1:1 puppet prop replicas really standing out as must-haves for Gremlins fans.  The Gremlins Series 3 line seems to be on indefinite hiatus at this point due to poor sales of previous 00213046webGremlin-themed figures vs their Mogwai figures, but that is another topic for another time.

Granted I would love to see and hold some props/replicas of original Gremlins gear, based on the 1984 sculpts since they seemed so much more “real” and detailed than the sequel’s designs to me. In the end, I am just happy to see more merchandise happening. Just a fact of life. The more money a product brings in means the more awesomeness we can get as fans!

Now let’s cross our fingers for a sequel/remake/reboot and that the Gremlins hype train gets started again. I have reached out to Warner Bros to find out any more details that might be offered regarding other upcoming Gremlin-centric treats,  and I will be sure to get you any information as soon as possible!

What do YOU want to see in a 30th anniversary special edition? Or What do you want to see this year for gremlins? (I heard there is a pretty neato fan book coming soon….stay tuned……)

Gremlins Reboot/Remake “moving quickly”? LEAVE MY CHILDHOOD ALONE!!!

Alright alright……
I get it from your panicked texts and emails you want to know more about the bit on the Goonies remake that namedropped Gremlins on Ain’t It Cool News.

Here’s the Quote (full story here)

One film from that period that I still adore, however, is GREMLINS, and I’m told a remake of Joe Dante’s film is also moving quickly at WB. Good times.

So there you have it, Jeremy is told that a Gremlins remake is “moving quickly at WB.”  This is about as unverifiable as it gets folks.
So yet again we will chalk this up to Rumors and Speculation until more details from some people actually involved in the project come out and say something of any substance beyond “Gremlins is a movie and is someday being remade.”

Now time to rant!
LEAVE MY CHILDHOOD ALONE!
As we all grow older and theoretically wiser, we see some horrid entertainment choices being made by the film industry at worst, and other moves that are questionable at best. Unnecessary sequels, spin-offs, and remakes are at the top of the list of the passionate moviegoers gripe list.
One common cry heard when a 30 year old movie is rumored or announced to be redone is “LEAVE MY CHILDHOOD ALONE!” as if the creation of a new version (or “batch”) of their childhood favorite film will somehow demolish all the awesomeness that the original brought to the table.
But it doesn’t.

We can always revisit our favorite movies and TV shows on a million different forms of media which are all completely unaffected by anything that happens.

What I am saying is no one can ruin your childhood memories but you.

It is quite simple; if you don’t like a product that comes out, say a new Gremlins film, just ignore it. Turn it off and watch the original masterpiece from 1984. It will always be there.

I get that we all want a new film to be as awesome as the first movie but we have to accept that anything to come out now probably won’t be as groundbreaking, but why don’t we let a remake stand on its own, and see what happens?

Maybe it is easier to complain and wag our fingers and be able to say “SEE! I SAID IT WOULD SUCK.” rather than give something new a chance.

df4c50ee40b2d7af3e4b2b8414e9e382There haven’t been many cult classics that have disturbed youth and humored 80’s adults since Joe Dante’s ‘Gremlins’.  The odd tale of a little creature who lives a life by very specific rules has become a small staple in American culture since 1984.  30 years later in 2014, digital artist Patrick Seymour has used his skills to re-invent the protagonist and antagonist of the film.  Check out his visualizations of Gizmo and Stripe below.
