MPAA Rating: PG
Release Date: June 8, 1984 (USA)
Budget: $11m (estimated)
Running Time: 106 Minutes (Theatrical Version)

Summary:
A young man (Billy Peltzer, played by Zach Galligan) is given a mysterious creature called a Mogwai as a Christmas gift from his father, along with three equally mysterious rules passed down from a young chinese boy;

1. Keep him out of the light, he hates bright light, especially sunlight, it’ll kill him.
2. Keep him away from water, don’t get him wet.
3. The most important rule, the rule you can never forget. Never. Never. Feed him after midnight.

The three rules are inadvertantly broken, and the city quickly becomes host to a gaggle of unruly creatures dubbed “Gremlins.” The sleepy  town of Kingston Falls, USA is turned upside down by the tiny green creatures on christmas eve, and only Gizmo & Billy, along with Billy’s dream girl, Kate,  (played by Phoebe Cates) can save the town from the menace and chaos of the Gremlins!

Trivia:
 Gremlins was one of two movies that prompted the MPAA to re-evaluate their rating system, and along with “Indiana Jones & The Temple Of Doom” inspired the PG-13 rating due to some scenes that are particularly graphic in both films.

In an original draft of the film, there was no “Gizmo” and all the mogwai turned into Gremlins, leaving it up to Billy to save the day with a small band of friends.

      yep, after the success of Gremlins, there were various creature feature style films that wanted to grab onto the trend of small semi-cute/semi-horrible creatures running amok.

      Munchies was a film produced by Roger Corman that was more of a parody than a cash grab.
      The Ghoulies Quadrology was an attempt at a more scary version of Gremlins that never reached mainstream status,
      However, Critters was probably the most well-received Gremlins inspired film series to date, spawning 3 sequels and possibly a reboot in the relative future…..

      There are many others like Kamillions, Hobgoblins and even some believe Troll & Troll 2 are inspired by Gremlins.
